Another popular closet door type is the bypass closet door. It has the distinction of being the oldest in the
designing of closet doors. This type of design glides on a series of roller wheels both vertically and
horizontally. It is one of the most popular choices in homes today and has been for well over a century in American
homes. What makes this option so popular is that many homeowners install dressing room mirrors on the panels which
serve as a dual purpose both functional and decorative.
Another type of closet door are four track sliders commonly used in workshop design. They house heavy hardware
along with other equipment typically found in workshops. The material is usually titanium or steel which better
protects that type of equipment. Usually they slide on a four track box made of multiple metal panels. Because of
the material and design element they have been known to cut or break fingers, thus you would not install theses
type of doors where there are young children around. The utmost care should be taken when opening and closing these
doors to avoid cut or pinched fingers.
Most high end homes install garage slider closet doors. It collapses into a flat panel and is designed to slide on
a vertical axis. Locking into place for safety precautions and can be pulled down either by use of a chain or
drawstring which is attached to the bottom of the door.
By installing this type of door the interior designer can offer a unique design element to the home. Sliding glass
doors are a great option for adding character to any home. Much more elegant than the typical swinging closet door.
